Got a ticket?

This is information, not legal advice. Deadlines are real. The fee stack is designed to make rolling over feel rational.

  1. Read the deadline and do not ignore it

You typically have 30 days from the notice date to pay or request a hearing. Ignoring it can escalate to a Uniform Traffic Citation with higher costs.

  2. Review the photo/video evidence

Use the notice number on secure.speedviolation.com (or the phone line on your letter) and confirm time, speed, plate, and location match your memory and any receipts/GPS.

  3. Understand the hearing cost structure

Lawtey’s notice warns that if you request a hearing and lose, you may owe $100 plus additional costs not to exceed $250. Statewide reporting shows most contested school-zone camera cases are upheld.

  4. Consider affidavits only if factually true

Sold, stolen, or another driver scenarios have affidavit paths. A false affidavit is described as a second-degree misdemeanor. Do not invent a story to dodge a civil notice.

  5. Document the signage if you contest

Timestamped photos/video of dark beacons, the photo-enforced plaque, and the short zone help tell the story — even if magistrates feel bound by statute. Preserve your notice.

  6. Push for better policy, not just your $100

Contact Florida legislators, FDOT, Bradford County media, and Lawtey commissioners about requiring beacons to flash whenever 20 mph is camera-enforced. Boycott discretionary spending in Lawtey if that’s your line.
